Candle Safety

For safety, candles should be burned according to the manufacturer's directions.  There are basic rules for burning candles safely:

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Make sure the candle is not on or near anything that can catch fire.
  • Candles should be kept out of the reach of children and pets.
  • The manufacturer's instructions should be carefully followed.
  • Before burning, trim the wick to 1/8 inch.
  • Make sure the candleholder is placed on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
  • The burning candles should not be in drafts, or air currents, or near vents.
  • If it smokes or flickers repeatedly, or if the flame is too high, put out the candle, cool, trim the wick, check for drafts and then re-light.
  • The wax pool should be kept free of debris such as trimmings or matches.
  • Do not burn a candle longer than the manufacturer recommends.
  • The room should be well ventilated.
  • Do not burn the candle too closely to the holder or container. The margin of safety is when 2 inches of wax remains (1/2 inch if in a container).
  • Don't touch or move a votive or container candle when the wax is liquid.
  • Extinguish pillar candles if the wax pool approaches the outer edge.
  • Lighted candles should be at least 3 inches apart from one another.

Burning Tips

To avoid tunneling when burning your candle, burn until the candle liquifies to the edge of the container.

Votive candles should be in a snug fitting container.

It is completely normal for natural wicks to mushroom. For best burning results, trim the wick before each use and keep wick trimmed to 1/8 inch.

We recommend extinguishing your candle by using a candle snuffer or by bending the wick over into the wax. This eliminates smoke from the wick. Be sure to re-center the wick the next time you light your soy wax candle.

Read, make sure you fully understand, and follow the caution and warning label on the bottom of your soy wax candle.
